vmplayer hangs on start

Hi All,

I have installed vmware player 3.1.3 build 324285 few days ago. It worked fine, until last two days. When I start the player and it hangs and freezes forever - see attached picture. I must run player for 10 times to get working instance, but there are long delays and hangs when clicking on menu. If I manage to run virtual machine, it runs smoothly.

I have windows 7 64bit home premium, HP ProBook 4320s core i5 4GB RAM, external display 1920x1200, all updates installed, antivirus up-to-date installed.

Below is event log data.

Anyone has suggestion what is the problem ?

I had the same problem. My VMWare Player window looked identical to the screenshot you have included in your post. On investigation of the problem it was a disconnected network share that was causing the startup delay and also producing the freeze / hang.

If you leave the VMWare Player long enough in the frozen state it will eventually complete loading, altough any attempt to interact with the window during the freeze period is enough for Windows to flag the application as un-responsive.

Once the player has started remove all virtual machines from your library, and re-add them once the network path is re-connected (for example if you had ISOs mounted in your guests).

Un-install / Re-install will not work, your preferences persist when the product is removed from your computer.
