using guest to escape VPN

When i enter VPN mode using my Linux (Apani/Nortel), it will no longer be reachable from "outside" machines (ftp, http, etc). This seems like typical VPN behavior, though I don't understand all the mechanics of it.

Is it possible to run a guest VM that "escapes" the VPN -- can still service requests from machines outside of the corporate net? Now I'm running in NAT mode -- hoping there's a simple trick like running bridged or somesuch, but perhaps its worse than that. If people have done this for more popular VPN software (i.e. Cisco), i'm interested in how you got it to work.

OK, answered my own question -- going to bridged mode was trivial, and sure enough, that solved the problem.
