upgraded VMWare and get permisions error. Nothing has changed. Is there something basic I am missing?

Running Player under Windows 10 as admin user.

When I start any of my CentOS or Ubuntu VMs I get the following:

Error while powering on: VMware Player cannot connect to the virtual machine. Make sure you have rights to run the program, access all directories the program uses, and access all directories for temporary files.  The VMware Authorization Service is not running.

Can you suggest what I am doing wrong?

VMware Authorization service is not on the list of Windows services.

How would you suggest I proceed?

Hi,

Sounds like the upgrade didn't work out as intended.

The thing I would try in your case is uninstall, reboot.

Download a fresh copy of VMware Player and install.

I am logged on to Windows as Administrator, uninstalled and attempted to re-installed player but failed with first error below.

Tried to force a start but got error 2. Any ideas?

Hi,

Ok, that starts to smell like the issue in this thread:

Re: Unable to start VMware USB Arbitration Service with error message: "Error 2: The system cannot f...

However, before you go down that slightly painful road, first one more question.

Did you reboot after the uninstall as I instructed?

I'm asking because the error specifically mentions "or has been marked for deletion" which is something an uninstall program does.

If you didn't then uninstall again, REBOOT then install.

edit: striked out first part of my answer as I mixed up two services there, sorry about that.
