update to 3.1.3 build-324285

I just updated my player to 3.1.3 and when start any of my existing vitual machines, I get error:

To collect data to submit to VMware support, run "vm-support".

We will respond on the basis of your support entitlement.

Will not go away even if i downgrade to previous version or player.

I've just now reinstalled Workstation and Player, and I can't reproduce your problem. Downgrading won't help, as there were no notable differences between this Player version and the last one.

For us to help, we'll need more information. While this document was written for Fusion, it still has a lot of basic info that applies: http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-1070

Please also refer to the error message; it tells you the logs we'd need to start looking. The command "vm-support" builds a large file of lots of logs and system info...

Folks generally don't post entire logs here - they're too big! The tail end of logs right after an error, yes. We can also make arrangements for ftp or email to get logs to us.

the problem seems to be, that for some reason it looks for:

NOT_REACHED d:/build/ob/bora-324285/bora/vmcore/vmx/main/hostDisasm.c:606

d: is my DVD drive.

Jerry: sorry for the delay; we were closed Thanksgiving week and I'm still catching up.

Can you tell me the host OS you're running on? The code excerpt in question is:

switch(Hostinfo_OSVersion(0)) {

…

…

default:

NOT_REACHED(); <- crashes here.

}

which causes us to wonder if you're attempting to run on an unsupported host...

You are probably right

The computer it does not work on is

Microsoft Windows XP version 5.1.2600

same image works on different laptop with

Microsodt Vista 6.0.6002

However in the past it worked on both - before I updated.

Problem resolved; I'm updating this thread so anyone searching for this error message will see it.

The "Win95 compatibility mode" was enabled. To see this, right click on vmware.exe, vmware-vmx.exe, vmplayer.exe and click on the Compatibility tab and see if the Compatibility mode is selected to Windows 95.
