setting up a virtual machine by cloning a physical machine

hi

im new to vmware  and virtual machines 

what is the easiest way of cloning a physical machine to a vm file and running on a new laptop ?i cloned the laptop to a vhd file but i dont  know what im doing next any guidance would be much appreciated
