Well, you can't do that. You need to use the vmkfstools to export the virtual disk to a format the hosted products understand. Then, use SCP to transfer the exported virtual disk file(s) to your Player host. Recreate the vmx file with the same settings, and point it to the converted/copied virtual disk. Then you can power it on.
Or, use the VMware Converter to do much of the grunt work for you.
