root password in ubuntu 7.10?

Hello Everyone,

I have installed VMWARE Player on my windows systems. I can access Ubuntu 7.10. But i need to know the username and password of system administrator. In short, the password of when root is user name. I tried passwords as "ubuntu" and "vmware", but had no luck.

please, give the detailed command to get system administrator root as user name.

You should ask the creator of the VM - how should we know this ?

did you try ?

sudo passwd

if you are lucky, the creator didn't enable root account at all (default buntu). You could try $sudo passwd root
