Hello all, I am compeltely new to the world of virtual machines, dipping my toes in the water while studying for the CompTIA and have very quickly run into a problem that only happens with ubuntu, specifially 22.04.1 LTS. I cannot get sound.
I have dual monitors in VM's "Virtual machine settings" have set the right host sound card yet I get the error
"Error opening sound device 4:
A device ID has been used that is out of range for your system.
The sound connection control operation failed."
And I cannot figure out how to fix it, this is my first experience with a virtual machine and also with linux so maybe there is something obvious I am missing, but I have spent days doing my own trial and error approach and also searching this problem but have found no solution so I am opening this thread. The threads here and there I found did not fix my problem quick example, someone fixed theirs by in their system changing the sound device to allow for exclusive control, things like that were already set "correct" and/or did not fix my issue and other threads were too different from mine, for example one thread the person fixed their problem by simply changing their output device in the vm, but the one and only output device my ubuntu is showing is "analog output [sound blaster PCI]."
I am tryin to get to grips with virtual machines in general so I have also got windows 7 and windows 10 installed, both work fine, no issue whatsoever, but for some reason getting sound to work with ubuntu is proving to be a real task.
If anyone can offer any thoughts or suggestions they will be appreciated. Please and thank you
Nevermind, I give up. This doesnt appear to work well with linux at all
ubuntu installs but has no sound
mint can't even install, constantly gives error "The cpu has been disabled by the guest operating system" regardless of all possible settings/ set up combinations
elementary os gets to the installer stage but the installer is cut off by the screen and even with vm tools there is no working way to resize so you can't click buttons to proceed
linux lite has the same problem as elementary
zorin, manjaro, pop!, peppermint, deepin.....every version of every linux distro I have been able to find refuses to work with this software.
