not installed VMware player

Install the player on windows xp sp3

It is not installed. No errors.

Starts and then closes.

How to install? The installer is based on java?

PS java installed.

you do not need Java to install vmplayer - I guess you use an over-eager Antivirus or Desktop-firewall - disable those types of tools during setup - and make sure you have no process named fixcamera.exe running
