No, Teams are a feature of Workstation only.

A team is a group of single VMs.

VMplayer cannot run "Teams" but it of course can run a group of VMs.

Check the vmx of each VM - you need to adjust nic-settings

We don't use "teams" in VMware, but instead have set up the Microsoft Loopback Adaptor to allow the VMs to talk to each other through the host (set the network mapping in VMware to look at the loopback adaptor).

This way, you can open two (or more) VMs in seperate Player windows and they will communicate as expected.

They can do the same if you are using guest-only VMnets as well. No need to muck around adding unneeded devices to your host that way.

Yes, the standard VMnet settings work fine too.

In our case, the Loopback adaptor is configured with static IP addresses, as are the VMs. Then we have extended the network using a wireless adaptor mapped to the VMs as a second network card which allows external devices such as Windows Mobile Pocket PCs to connect to the environment. The Wireless Access Points are all configured with the same static IP addresses, but each have a unique SSID. We use the setups to demonstrate our software to prospective clients.

We have 6 identical setups on 6 laptops, and this method ensures that there is no cross-interference between VMs on different PCs (i.e. the individual VM client always talks to it's assigned server). So each person can use their Pocket PC to talk to their individual virtual client/server environment, even if they are all in the same room at the same time.
