error 25009. Setup failed to create the Vmware group and user account on this system???

Trying to install the free VMware player 6.5.2 build-156735 on my computer to try out a virtual computer. It fails and gives the above error. The only option is to click OK so that it can roll back the install.

Any ideas?

Host OS? Running the setup as Administrator? Is the host a member of a Domain, or a standalone system?

Running XP Pro Corporate, administrative rights and stand alone computer.

Hello, I have the same error on both the player and the worksation. XP pro SP2, stand alone,workgroup, run as admin.

I'm unable to find a solution but I keep searching:-(

Don't know if it will solve anything here but it is possible to set the group and user account manually;

"net localgroup __vmware__ /add"

"net user __vmware_user__ /add"

"net localgroup __vmware__ /add __vmware_user__"

After two days of research I'm happy to find the solution here thanks to you.

But why I have to create these accounts manually (as local admin, software policies ok, registry permission ok etc) ???

Please open a new post and include more details on what you have (Workstation and operating versions) instead of latching onto a 14 year old post. A lot has changed since that post was last replied to.

Vmware 14 15 16 17 also produces it on all the machines I tried and it has Windows 10
