It worked by selecting Other.  I presume it'll work by selecting the OS later.

The Other 64bit and then Win764 install combo worked. I'm up and running now...

Task switching (drag from the left) seems pretty useless though - anyone know how to select which app you want to drag out? Or how about closing open apps?

OK, here is the complete guide of how to install Windows Developer Preview with developer tools English, 64-bit (x64) in VMware.

  1. Install VMware Workstation 8.
  2. Create a new vm with either Workstation 8 or the included Player 4.
  3. DO NOT mount the iso file, instead select I will install the operating system later.
  4. Set guest OS to Microsoft Windows 7 x64.
  5. Increase the RAM to 2 GB and finish the wizard.
  6. Edit the vm you just created and mount the iso file to the CD/DVD.
  7. Play!

It is safe to select any language and keyboard during the install.

If you have not a Connect to the Internet, the Win8-VM (from Windows 8 Release Preview ISO)

have not found the VMware-Netadapter. (VMPlayer 4.0.4 with Linux,)

You can take the VMWare drivers from a XP or Win7 VM:

1.Copy the VMwaredrivers (VM*.Sys) from \system32\drivers in a created Folder.

2.Copy the Files of the hidden folder\Windows\inf in this folder (i was to lazy to find the correct inf-File(s) 🙂  )

3.Transfer this Folder into the Win8-VM and use it as source for install/update the

missing drivers (Ethernet Controller and SCSI-Controller).

Then can you use the Network/Internet.

If you have a Dualcore CPU, don't use (all) 2 cores under VMware/win8.

The System will crashed.

Have fun!
