I an new to this forum and vmware. I installed VM Player 3.1 on my Laptop running Windows 7 Professinal 32 Bit OS. Ever since I installed the VM player, the host (W7) stops detecting my USB devices. For e.g when I insert a USB Flash Drive, W7 use to pop up a window asking whether to open folders, etc. Now that does not happen. But the VM Workstation emulating W2003 Server detects the USB which I do not care for. Similalry my host no longer detects automatically USB Headset or cellphone etc. This problme exists even if I do not start and play any VM machine.
I tired disabling all VM ware startup services. No use. Worse even after I uninstalled VMplayer the effect is permanent, my host still does not detect USB. I uninstalled and reisntalled USB Root Hub Drivers. Still no use. I had to reinstall W7 OS to get USB to work again. I cannot install VMware again until I know how to get USB working on W7 Host. For my needs I do not need the VMware to detect any USB at all.
