My CPU incompatible with anything above version 12 of workstation player
The new Windows 10 2004 won't install unless I remove Player 12.
Will there be a way to run player 12 on windows 10 2004 once I upgrade ? will it really break something or Microsoft is just being too cautious by blocking version 12 ?
Hi,
I'm sorry but there's nothing you can do. It is not in the compatibility matrix.
If you want to check this is the link:
ARomeo
As you will see from the KB posted above only the original Win10 build has supported WS12.
You could TRY the workarounds mentioned in the links from this thread: Statement for Workstation 15.0 and earlier being blocked by Microsoft KBs
As I see it your only other options are to avoid that Win10 update or to replace your old hardware.
It's been working fine with windows 10 1909 with no issues. I don't remember that windows 10 was blocking the update back then, I think there was just a recommendation to uninstall VmWare 12. I will try to uninstall VmWare, upgrade windows 10 and reinstall it afterwards.
Good question, I'm in the same boat, I headed to the VMWare store to buy the upgrade unfortunately there is no upgrade from 12 pro to 16 so I'm left out of pocket $330 buying a full copy instead of the $164 for the upgrade, I guess for me the other option is to buy the vmug advantage which I believe has workstation but it is a 12 month subscription. VMVare if you are listening it would be nice to be able to buy the upgrade instead of the full product again.
