Why does VMware Player request access to the trusted zone?

Hi,

I'm running VMware Player 2.0.3 on a Windows XP host. I also have Zone Alarm. When VMware Player starts up, I get a message saying;

VMware Player is trying to access the trusted zone.

and also

VMware Authorization Service is trying to access the trusted zone.

Why is this? In the latter case, since the product is provided free, why is authorization necessary? Out of interest, I denied access and yet Player and the guest OS still boot up normally and I have full access (so far) to all its services, including shared folders.

Any ideas? I'd like to set my Zone Alarm so that both these services are permanently denied access.

regards

Hi,

The "VMware Authorization" server is just a bridge so that the virtual machine process can be launched in privileged mode as Administrator. It is not used to access anything on internet. It is required if you don't run vmplayer as Administrator, otherwise, you should be able to use vmplayer without VMware authorization server if you run as Administrator on XP. But it's not fully supported by the way.
