VMware player problem : no display at maximize

Hi

I just recently started using VMware V3. The host is Windows Vista SP2 , 3G memory , Dual core , Core2 processor with GetForce 8600. I have 3 images that were running perfectly: Windows XP, Windows 98, and Fedora Linux. Everything was running smoothly until the last Windows update. After that update VMware started to act very weird. With any image, whenever I maximize the VM the desktop is lost. What I mean by that is the Guest desktop is lost and only what ever the host was displaying is there. Keyboard and mouse are still captured by the guests, and the VMware many still accessable although it is not displayed. I just try clicking at the top window until I catch it. From there I can suspend the VM. But the I can't restore the desktop again.

Any help for that

Regards

Arg! This issue cropped up towards the end of the release cycle of Player 3.0. We couldn't reliably reproduce it, and we made some attempts that seemed to address it, but apparently not.

I've reopened our internal reports about this, and we will take another stab at it for the next point release.

Some questions:

1. How often do you see this issue?

2. If you press Ctrl+Alt to escape from fullscreen, and then you enter fullscreen again, does the issue reproduce?

3. If you press Ctrl+Alt to escape from fullscreen, and then you close and reopen Player, does the issue reproduce?

4. Does the issue reproduce if you restart your host system and then open Player?

5. If you can find out, which Windows Update package did you install most recently before experiencing this issue?

Also, could you upload both the UI and VMX logs for a session in which you encountered this issue? See http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-10191 for details.

Thank you for your reply. I will try to answer your questions as accurate as

I can:

1. How often do you see this issue?

After the last windows update, it happened with every VM I run except only

once. I couldn't tell what made this one to work fine, but other than that ,

it always happen.

2. If you press Ctrl+Alt to escape from fullscreen, and then you enter

fullscreen again, does the issue reproduce?

If the VM starts in a window it works fine, once I maximize it the problem

accoures and I can't get the display again. Ctrl+Alt only give the control

back for the host, but the Guest window never show up again. As I said in my

previous post I can guess the location of the window from the tip window

that pops up when I move my mouse over the location where the window is

supposed to be. And only using this approach I can suspend the VM and close

it.

3. If you press Ctrl+Alt to escape from fullscreen, and then you close and

reopen Player, does the issue reproduce?

Yes

4. Does the issue reproduce if you restart your host system and then open

Player?

Yes,

5. If you can find out, which Windows Update package did you install most

recently before experiencing this issue?

Before that issue accures I installed 7 windows update at the host operating

system which is windows Vista home premuim with SP2:

a. Update for Microsoft office word 2007 (KB974561)

b. Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB973704)

c. Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - November 2009 (KB890830)

d. Security Updates for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (KB973593)

e. Security Update for Windows Vista (KB969947)

f. Update for Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter (KB905866)

g. Security Update for Windows Vista (KB973565)

After installing these update I restarted the host computer, and after that

the problem started to happen.

Also, could you upload both the UI and VMX logs for a session in which you

encountered this issue?

I will try to do that!!

I hope this information will help you resolve this issue!!

Regards

Note: trying to solve this issue I uninstalled the player and installed it

again, and that didn't help too. Later I uninstalled it again, and installed

Ver 2.5, which works perfectly except with an issue with the sound on Fedora

linux VM. Now I uninstalled Ver 2.5 and installed ver 3 again, and I'm going

to test it again to see it the issue still there.

Hi again

I'm attaching some of the logs. I'm not sure if they contains all the

information that you may need.

Also after the last installation of Ver 3 of the player after removing Ver

2.5, things seems to be back to normal. But I will test it more!!
