VMware installation.

Hi! There.

VMware can not be installed on PC running under Windows 10 with Intel i7-920.

Is there an alternative?

Thank you!

Whether it is Workstation Pro or Workstation Player, the system requirements are the same for the same version number.

The i7-920 is Bloomfield (Nehalem microarchitecture).

Ever since version 14.x at minimum Intel CPU requires Westmere microarchitecture (the one immediately after Nehalem). The last version that can run with i7-920 was 12.5.7 (last update January 2018).

Upgrade to a whole new system altogether or upgrade to a Gulftown CPU such as i7-970 or i7-980 as it shares the same socket as i7-920.

If you want to buy a second hand Gulftown CPU, make sure that the motherboard BIOS supports it. Typically a BIOS update is necessary to support newer CPUs even if they are socket compatible. Other things to watch out for is the RAM speed (e.g. i7-980 appears to support only DDR1066 but not DDR800). Of course there is always the risk the old i7-970 bought from an online auction site may not work at all so buyer beware.

OK! Thank you for this information.

I shall use my other PC with i5 PCU.

I know this PC will be compatible with VMware Player v.16.

Thanks again!
