VMware Workstation 16.2.3 Player for Linux 64-bit on Tuxedo (Ubuntu-derivate)?

Hallo everybody,

thank you for helping me with the base questions in issue "How do I move my virtual VMware Fusion-machine from Mac OS tu Unix Ubuntu?".

Now I have my brand-new Tuxedo computer at home with OS "Tuxedo", an Ubuntu-derivate. I admit I am really happy.

As advised in the last issue, I have downloaded the bundle "VMware Workstation 16.2.3 Player for Linux 64-bit". I admit it -- I am a Unix-newbee. What do I do with the bundle...? How do I install the Player...?

On https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2073804 I have just read that VMWare is kind of included in Ubuntu and other Unix-OSs, but not in Tuxedo? Is that correct? If so: What can I do now -- besides throwing everything away and restart my machine from scratch with Ubuntu instead of Tuxedo?

Thank you very much again.

OK, I did as they told on https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/VMware_Workstation_Player/.

1. Download bundle moved to Dokuments, there I want the data of the virtal machine.

2. In Terminal sudo bash VMware-Player-Full-16.2.3-19376536.x86_64.bundle

3. Startet: Installing VMWare Player 16.2.3 No GUI, but "Installation was successful".

4. On first start a popup was displayed -- some other things had to be installed before usage. I said "go".

5. Unable to install all modules. See log /tmp/vmware-USER/vmwware-13969.log for details. (Exit code 1)

In the log I found the following at the beginning, where 'Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden' translates to 'file or diectory not found:

One thing to be clear on, it is open-vm-tools which is included in Linux distributions, that’s for when you run it as a guest OS in a VM, not for when you run VMs on it as a host OS.

You still need to download VMware Workstation Pro or Player to install on the host OS.

Thank you, Scott28tt. I downloaded the bundle & installed it. That went right.

On first start it said in a popup that further software had to be installed & I said "go".

Then this didn't work as described above.

So I am at a loss.
