VMware Player Installation

I am using Ubuntu 10.4 and trying to install vmware  player 3.1.4.  When I type ./vmware*bundle, I get this error

./VMware-Player-3.1.4-385536.i386.bundle: line 110: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'
./VMware-Player-3.1.4-385536.i386.bundle: line 110: `<html>'

I think I have the source for the kernal installed?  What could be the problem?

I've seen this error message when not installing as root or using sudo.

1. Validate the downloaded file matches the published MD5 ro SHA1 checksums.

2. Read and explicitly follow the directions "Install VMware Player on a Linux Host" on page 16 in the Getting Started Guide EN.

I have downloaded it several times, old versions too, and even VM Server.  Nothing, wont work.  I keep getting the same error.  I feel I am missing a dependency of some sort.  Help.

It appears that the CHECKSUM solved my problem.  When I downloaded, I used DOWNLOAD MANAGER which gave me an incomplete download.  So, I used MANUAL DOWNLOAD instead and that worked.  Thanks so much guys.
