If AIX 5 runs linux applications can it run linux vmware player/workstation?
(Pls note I'm not looking to run AIX on Linux!)

No, VMware only virtualizes x86 (and x86-64) CPUs. AIX is a RISC chip, and is not compatible.
I had recently heard of somebody testing one of the "Windows on Linux" emulators on a RISC box. If that worked, it might be fun to see if Player would run on it.
Just a "semi-random" thought...
Wow... software to virtualize an emulated CPU... kinda makes your head spin, no?
Pretty cools stuff... I bet you take some performance hits, of course...
