VMs run only in VmServer do not run in VmPlayer

My ubuntu710-VM and the BA-VM run in VmServer -1.0.4 but do not run in VmPlayer 2.0.

Host: XP

Any suggestions?

What do you mean, "do not run": any error message ?

can you post the config file of one of these VMs (the .vmx file content)

After a short start, the boot-operation in the player freezes (black screen). No error-message.

In the Server all works well.

Here the vmx-file of the untuntu710-VM:

This could be the USB autoconnect device.

as Ulli mentionned, the usb autoconnect could be the culprit ,or the sound ?

edit the machine config from your vmware server (or by hand in the config file if you feel comfortable doing it) and remove all usb and sound from the vm then retry the operation...

it may also be CD-ROM auto detection:

ide1:0.present = "TRUE"

ide1:0.fileName = "auto detect"

ide1:0.deviceType = "cdrom-raw"

this happens of you have more than 1 CD-ROM drives in your machine, or you have a USB device that emulates a CD-ROM drive. I had this problem with VMPlayer (on Vista) and my work around is to remove the USB device before opening any VM, then reconnect it after the VM has started. The USB device is actually my HSDPA modem, which is a composite device (Modem + CD ROM), the CDROM drive shows up in my explorer.

Thanks for all suggestions!

But they do not work.

The VMs do not run in VmPlayer 2.0 but as mentioned run in VmServer and run in Player 1.0.1 too.

just to be sure : are we talking about 3 different Physical machines : one has Vm Server 1.04, one has player 1.X and the latest has player 2.X

right ?

The Host-OS for the VmServer is XP.

When trying the VmPlayers the same physical machine is booted with slax-Live-CDs, either with VmPlayer 1.0.1 installed or installed with VmPlayer 2.0.

Except ubuntu710-VM I have tried some other VMs (knoppix, puppy). Always the same. All work well in Server (host: XP) and Player1.0.1 (host: slax-Live). None works in Player 2.0 (host: slax-Live).

Here the last lines of the log-file, when the Player 2.0 freezes:

first thing I would try is using player from another live CD or another machine

I suspect something is going wrong between the slax live cd, your machine and VMP 2.x

Would you mind trying a windows live CD with player 2.0 ?

for example this one :http://www.sanbarrow.com/moa.html

Now I installed the VmPlayer 2.0.2 on another physical machine and all worked very well.

It seems to be the slax Vmplayer-Module that causes the problems.

It is definitely the slax-VmPlayer-2.0-module I downloaded from the slax-modulpage.

Now I installed experimentally from scratch VmPlayer 2.0.2 in slax Live-OS and it worked very well!
