I've always used the workstation product, but now I'm giving a VM to a co-worker to run with vmplayer.
The workstation is a WindowsXP Host and guest, and the player will be on Windows XP as well.
When I installed VMplayer, I was instructed to un-install VmWorkstation-Why?
Now I have to have a second system just to test the Vms with the player before I give them out. this seems very unproductive and expensive, especially when the product is targeted to reduce computer resources.
I can see managers frowning on this already.
Hi, I don't know about previous versions but Workstation 6.x comes with Player bundled with it so you don't need to install Player separately.
HTH
Pete.
You cannot have Player and Workstation (or any other VMware virtualization engine product) installed on the same PC and OS at the same time, as they share common system files and drivers. However, Workstation 5.5.0 and newer include the VMPlayer.exe Player UI interface so that you can test how your VMs will work under Player. Some of the versions actually create a shortcut to the Player executable, some didn't - sorry I can't remember which ones.
