VM doesn't appear in VM list after creation / addition

I use 16.2.4 player on ubuntu 22.04.

I created a Windows VM and run it (right from creation menu). After I shut down the VM, it doesn't appers in VM list in player.

The same situation when I am trying to add existing VM to player.

I can only run VM from VM folder with just double-click on .vmx file, but i can't change VM's configuration.

I am having the exact same issue though I have not attempted to create a new VM. I have a new install of Ubuntu 22 and tried to open 2 existing VMs. As the OP states I am able to open the VMs by double clicking on the vmx file however I cannot open them within VMWare player. When I open the VM with Player the .lck folder is created but the VM is not added to the list of VMs.

VMWare Player version: 16.2.4 build-20089737

OS: Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS

Kernel: 5.15.0-47-generic
