User asked for administrator credentials when trying to run a VM

Hi all,

I had a user report to me this morning that all of a sudden he's being asked to enter admin credentials when he's trying to run one of his VM's on his VMWare player 15 installation.

I remoted on to his machine and entered my domain admin credentials (a local admin on his machine) so he could run the vm but he hasn't had to do this previously.

Any ideas what might have caused this and how best to fix ?

thanks in advance,

Paul.

Hello Paul,

This can have the following reasons:
One reason could be that the network adapter in the VM is asking for promiscuous mode.
But IIRC then the popup does actually mention this.

Another reason is due to file permissions. When the folder the VM is in is not accessible by the user or if one of the files in the folder requires admin permissions to open.

Hope this helps,
