Use different DNS server (host vs client)?

I'd like to disable access to my network's dns server on my client machine to prevent internet access - though it will still be connected to my network and the dns server will be "pingable". Is it possible to set the dns server on my virtual machine to enable internet access if it is disabled on the vmware host machine? Thank you.

Changing the DNS server on the machine you do not want connecting to the internet to a machine would allow this.  Though there would be issue with resolving addresses and they would manually need to be added to the hosts file.
