USB device Greyed out on Ubuntu 20.04 Guest running on Windows 10 Host

I can't connect any USB devices to my Ubuntu 20.04 Guest OS. I installed it using the easy install option. I have tried switching the hardware settings to USB 1.1, USB 2.0, and USB 3.1. None seem to work. They always have all the USB devices greyed out. I also checked that the VMWare USB Arbitration Service is running. Nothing in dmesg in the guest. I also tried re-installing the tools using the disc image that can be mounted. Everything looks good, they are just greyed out. Anyone have similar issues or know of a workaround?

Hi,

This is a known issue.

Shutdown (not suspend) the VM, then edit the vmx file of the VM with a plain text editor such as notepad and remove the line:

usb.restrictions.defaultAllow = "FALSE"
