Trouble opening SD card using Ubuntu VM on Workstation Player 16

I am running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS virtual machine on my Windows laptop. I want to mount SD card and partition it through the VM, but I ran into trouble loading the SD Card. I followed instructions such as this: https://www.htpcguides.com/how-to-use-sd-card-reader-in-vmplayer-and-vmworkstation/

But, when on the step to select physical disk, I get the following error: "Failed to load partitions for device \\.\PhysicalDrive1: Insufficient permission to access file." Prior to this step, a popup requiring admin approval came up, and I said OK. Some other posts suggest security settings, but I cannot assign user access to SD card like I can do my native hard drive.

Any thoughts and tips on the correct steps to load SD card onto Ubuntu VM would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

I wouldn't do that.. as SD cards have a tendency to break if you read/write much on them, but you might have your reasons.

The first screenshot in the linked site shows you the disk manager in Windows.. It shows the SD card as "Online"... you have to set that as "Offline" so that Windows itself does not try to access it anymore.

You can't access the SD card from both the host as well as the guest at the same time.

Run VMWare Player by rightclick and "run as administrator" after that You can add Sd-card via scsi
