Svchost.exe Errors in Guest OS

I am using VMPlayer 3.1.3 installed on an Ubuntu host. After installing Windows XP Pro SP3 on a guest machine, I get svchost.exe errors 1 - 2 times per day. I have tried using various Ubuntu releases 32 and 64 bit, different VMPlayer 3.x.x versions, and installed it on different machines, all with the same outcome. When I install the same windows installation directly on the computer, not using vmware, I had no svchost error.

I have tested the ram memory to make sure there are no problems with it and tried the usual Windows solutions that I could find for it, such as regenerating the windows update .dll's and turning on and off automatic updates, etc. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this? The exact error message is:

SVChost.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x6f8916e2" referenced memory at "0x00e6005c" the memory could not be "written"

Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
