Hi,
I have a XP-VM on a XP-Host using VMware Player.
I have enabled sound by adding these lines to the vmx-file:
sound.virtualDev = "es1371"
sound.fileName = "-1"
sound.autodetect = "TRUE"[/b]
Everything was fine so far, but now I get the following error message when booting up the VM and as well when hitting the Audio-button of VMware Player:
The default sound device cannot be opened:
A device ID has been used that is out of range for your system. Failed to connect virtual device sound.[/b]
On the VM's Device Manager I find under "sound, video and game controllers"
Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM)[/b]
Does anybody have a clue?
Thank you in advance!!!

I'm having the same problem. Can you remember what you did to fix it?
I had the same problem and I solved it by shutting down the VM, and editing the VM's configuration file by removing all lines that start with sound.xxxx. I saved the file, and restarted the VM, and everything worked.
I made just that (removing lines with sound.*) and it didn't fix it, any other ideas?
My hostOS is Windows7 and the GuestOS is Kubuntu11 and using VMWare Player 3.1.4 build-385536
thanks in advance.
