Re: VMware Installer error - VMCI service fails

Hi

I have the same problem on VMware player after the upgrade of Ubuntu from 13.04 to 13.10.

---------------------

Failed to open device "/dev/vmci": No such file or directory

Please make sure that the kernel module 'vmci' is loaded.

Module DevicePowerOn power on failed.

Failed to start the virtual machine.

---------------------

I tried to follow the steps to patch but it's appears that the files

http://pkgbuild.com/git/aur-mirror.git/plain/vmware-patch/vmblock-9.0.2-5.0.2-3.10.patch

http://pkgbuild.com/git/aur-mirror.git/plain/vmware-patch/vmnet-9.0.2-5.0.2-3.10.patch

are no more available.

Please, can help me?

Regars.

AleCic

What version of VMware Player are you using. BTW this forum is essentially closed (and should be taken down). A new version of WS/Player is out and the beta has been officially over by October 15.

Hi mfelker, thanks you for the replay.

I'm using Vmware Player 5.0.3 build-1410761.

So, it appears that the problem is "auto- resolved" during the update of the linux kernel.

These are the steps:

1. I download and install the new kernel version;

2. I recompile VMplayer;

3. Then my Vm start without problems.

I think I was lucky because new kernel version was released in this days and coincidently this resolving my problem.

Regards
