I have vmware player version 2.5.2 at work and at home. I have one virtual machine on my external hard drive and i can open and run it fine at home but i can not open it at work. i am not an admin on my pc and this vm ware palyer was setup by it. I would not think you would have to be admin?
This is the error i am getting when trying to open the virtual machine. Error while powering on: Check for missing files failed:
Insufficient permission to access file.
Can someone tell me what is wrong. as i said it works fine opening in workstation or player at my home.
What host OS?
To run a virtual machine, at a minimum, you need read/write/execute access to the vmx file and read/write access to the VM's folder (and the remaining files within it).
win xp pro for guest and host.
Opens and runs fine in workstation but not player ?
Anyone?
did you check file permissions as Rob Petruska had suggested ?

Where would i check this. The machines are located on a usb external hard drive. No policy or permissions or anything like that .i have tried them on a couple different systems.
I have read/write access to all other files on the disk?
I have also tried to move them to my 2nd internal HD and get the same result.
does the player create a vmware.log ? - if yes - attach it
