Player v4.0.1 not installable on 64bit Win7 core i5 system

I tried to install the newest VmWare Player v4.0.1 on a 64bit Win7 Pro system which runs on a

64bit core i5 system.

Yes, CPU-Z shows EM64T and "Intel Virtualization Technology" is enabled in BIOS and shows up

as VT-X in CPU-Z.

However at the end of the installation process a popup appears with the message (See attached snapshot as well):

"The MSI 'D:\temp\vmware-1325947177\vmware-player.msi' failed"

Hmm, very poor error message.

Is there a logfile which shows more details?

As a first step of troubleshooting, verify the MD5 checksum of the downloaded installation package. The second step is to - at least temporarily - disable UAC and run the installation package by "Run as Administrator".

I have v4.0.1 installed on a core i5-520 and it works great.  I upgraded from v3.1.4 to 4.0.0 and upgraded again to 4.0.1 with no problems.
