VMware Player is correct.
Your disk size is low.
There's 2 reasons here.
You have saved your virtual disk as a single file, as a result for operations such as compact VMware Player needs to have a free disk space as big as your virtual disk.
If you start that and not have sufficient free disk space, you can end up with a destroyed VM.
Another reason is that your virtual RAM is 12GB. On boot of your VM, VMware Player will create a disk file to back that RAM, a file of 12GB in size.
So yes, your disk is low on free space, even while it has > 20 GB free.
