Player 12 running on WIndows 10 host: Vista Guest OS hangs on install

I'm running Workstation 12 Player on a Windows 10 host, and trying to build a VM using the Vista Home Premium 32-bit reinstallation CD that came with my retired PC. The Vista install proceeds normally, then at the final 'Completing installation..." stage freezes and becomes unresponsive. Upon reboot the Vista VM hangs partway into startup. Wondering if anyone has seen this before, or has a theory. Help please!

Hello,

Welcome at the VMware communities forum.

I'm afraid that the Vista CD that came with your retired PC was most likely a OEM licensed CD and as such it is tied to that specific PC hardware.

We are not allowed to help you violating that license.

Perhaps better to download a windows 90 days trial instead?
