Player 12: Hosted Server 2012R2 cannot ping default gateway

If I select Bridged under Network Adapter under Manage->Virtual Machine Settings then ServerManager Local Machine shows no ethernet at all. If I select VMNet8, I get the settings for Ethernet but I cannot ping the default gateway of the host machine. (I could before; just didn't document my settings then.)

I am asking this question incorrectly or in the wrong place?

If I use Bridged, then the Ethernet connections on the VMs (2012R2) are not connected. If I use VMNet0 or 8 they are connected, that is, there is a local IP address but the VMs cannot communicate to any other machine or the default gateway.

What to do? Where to look for the error?

Verify that the IP address are correct by pinging the gateway IP address and check  firewall configuration. Refer KB 1007911 and 1007910
