I've read a few post:
http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?threadID=77784&tstart=90
And this started from the same article as most have read:
I've changed damn near every permission I can find.... .vmx, .vmdk, .mbr, /dev/hda (don't like this one...)
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Sorry if this has been already covered... i'm slow.

Since you are using a physical disk, you need to either run as Administrator, or make sure the user account you are using has rights to the Disk.
So... in case I haven't been clear...
I'm getting the same error msg:
Cannot open the disk '/home/tom/windows.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disk it depends on.
Reason: Insufficient permission to access file.
Sorry, i tend to lose my point most the time...
Post the contents of the .vmx file from the virtual machine
Thanx Kevin!

VERY COOL!
I understand the why, and "how to" via CLI. Do you know of an easy switch to add to the launcher so I can "Click-n-Go"?
Thanx again, Gentlemen!
Just create a shortcut to the vmx file... that extension should be registered to open in Player... so when you double-click the shortcut, it should launch Player and open that VM.
the description of my problem is on the forum:
http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?messageID=656268򠎌
you'll find there the content of my vmx file and the list of permissions for all my vmware files.
i have 2 problems
1) vmplayer runs only with superuser permissions
2) vmware-config.pl needs to be run everytime I boot
I guess that this forum can help me only with problem #1. My vmware disk is not physical, but virtual.
How can I configure my system so that vmplayer may be run with normal user permissions? Thanks
