OS config fails after fresh VMware player installs.

Hey guys,

I am trying to configure windows xp on my windows 7 using vmplayer but it keeps giving me driver version error.  The error reads as follows:

Could not get vmx86 driver version: The handle is invalid.

You have an incorrect version of driver "vmx86.sys".  Try reinstalling Vmware player.

Failed to initialize monitor device.

I have tried reinstall 3 times with 3.1.4 and twice with 3.1.3 and get same error.  Does anyone have solution to this?

Thanks

Welcome to the Community,

From what i read so far about this error message, it seems to be either a permission/UAC issue (for some users "Run as Administrator" works) or a firewall/AV issue. (see also "incorrect vmx86.sys" problem with Workstation 8 on Windows 7 x64)

Do you have a firewall and(or AV installed? Which one?

André

I have mcafee av enterprise 8.7 installed. I did install it as admin as I am the only admin user on my laptop.

I just got my laptop re-imaged to win 7, I reinstalled latest workstation 7 and I get this exact error trying to start a vm,  I tried unistalling and re-installing twice but that changes nothing.

any thoughts?

Right click and run as admin or right click and property and check the box to run as admin.
