I just migrated over from vmware...WOW this is so much better.
But I miss one funtion that I can not find...snapshots.
Or else how do i make a backup of the system so i can return to it?
And how can i clone a basic installation for use as multiple guests?
If you need functions like snapshotting you may want to take a look at VMware Workstation.

not sure if for that one feature alone it is worth buying it.
does anyone know how to copy or clone a V-drive?
or if i want 5 running guests do i need to do five installs

With the Virtual Machine shutdown, not suspended and VMware Player closed just copy the folder the target VM is in and then make each copy uniquely different as needed to avoid any conflicts.

You need to have the appropriate number of licenses as needed/required by the target OS installed. As an example if you clone an Ubuntu Linux VM and have 5 VM's total of that OS then you do not need any licenses however if you clone a Microsoft OS like Windows XP and have 5 copies then you need to have 5 licenses for that OS.
...How do you license a virtual O.S. after all it does not exist....it virtual.
What do you mean by "copy uniquely different as needed to avoid any conflicts"
could you give me please an example?

If it would not exist, how could you run it?
MS requires you to license each instance you are running, no matter if you install it on physical hardware or as a virtual machine.

If you copy a VM you have to make sure each VM/copy has a unique:
- name in VMware Player's inventory
- unique MAC address
- unique IP address
- unique hostname
- if running in a domain you may also need to chang the SID
