No sound when RDP to Server 2008 for non-Admin

This might be an RDP limitation but sound does not work when I Remote Desktop to the desktop and run VMware player as a non-Administrator user on Win Server 2008.

Setup: Win server 2008 R2, VMware Player 3.1.

Same problem with Workstation 7.1. Same problem with Citrix XenApp 5/6.

Sound works as the 'Administrator' user. Sound is enabled and working outside player, for example windows media player, etc are all OK. Also, sound works with Win server 2003 for all users.

Does anyone know how to fix this or what the cause might be?

From the vmware.log:

Sep 06 15:14:36.394: vcpu-0| SOUND 000.771417 ES1371HostOpenChannel waveOutOpen error: 2.
Sep 06 15:14:36.394: vcpu-0| Msg_Post: Warning

Sep 06 15:14:36.394: vcpu-0| Virtual device sound will start disconnected.

The vmware.log when running as Administrator:

Sep 06 15:16:25.093: vcpu-0| SOUND 000.842173 PCISoundWin32 mixerGetLineInfo error 1024

From the image.vmx file:

sound.autodetect = "TRUE"
sound.fileName = "-1"
sound.present = "TRUE"
sound.startConnected = "TRUE"
sound.virtualDev = "es1371"

Can anybody help?

To clarify the problem, I am RDP'ing to the server/host (Windows Sever 2008) and running VMware workstation (or player) but the RDP sound device is not working.
