Mouse doesn't work - Guest OS Ubuntu 14.01.1 LTS

I am running VMPlayer 6.0.3-1895310 in Windows 7 professional SP1 on ASUS Notebook B43J. The guest host is ubuntu-14.04.1-server-amd64.

VMTools was successfully installed and vmtoolsd is running.

I cannot use the mouse, only the keyboard. When I have the focus in the console, the mouse is completely disabled and only can be enabled by using ctrl+alt.

Is this nornal and if not, how to fix it?

thanks, Joe

The ubuntu-14.04-server-amd64.iso image does not by default install a graphical user interface.  As such clicking into the VM's Display that is only running a Console the mouse is not normally active even though its been captured and pressing Ctrl+Alt to release is normal.  If you were in a GUI with VMware Tools installed the mouse should release automatically.

Thanks. Maybe it's such a long time that I've directly accessed a server from the main console, I've forgotten. I guess I've been puttying for too long.
