Map Virtual Disk fails on Windows 7

Hi all,

I am using vmware player 3.0.0 build-203739 on Windows 7 64bit.

I can run my windows XP vm with no problems.

When i try to map the virtual disk within vmwareplayer (vm settings harddisk utilities map...) everything looks good, but explorer cannot find mapped drive.

Started Player as administrator and with highest privileges, but no change.

Also marked "vixDiskMountServer.exe"to be executed as administrator but no change.

Does anybody have a clue?

Thanks!

Stefan

Do you have the XP Guest running?

IMHO the virtual disk function might fail upon active sessions, since it is dangerous to both using the VM and doing things with that virtual drive simultaneously.

If your XP session is shut down, this means no suspended, and you still cannot access the virtual drive, then it's a weird error.

It is weird: The XP guest is properly shutdown, but no way to map the vmdk.

Does anybody else have the same problem?

Or even better: A solution?

Plan B:

use vdk 64 - you can download it here http://oss.netfarm.it/win32/vdksrc-050406-amd64.7z

thats a commandline tool to mount virtual disks - but it may need manual edits of the descriptor-files before it works.

I can help with that but it is not for the faint at heart
