Hello!
Does VMware Player has 4-way SMP support for Windows 2008R2 SP1 (guest) and Windows 7 SP1 x64 (host)?
One time it boots and sometime not (with BSOD: 0x0000003E MULTIPROCESSOR_CONFIGURATION_NOT_SUPPORTED).
Usually when first time I start guest OS it boots, the second time - almost always not, so I have to reboot my host.
I have latest Intel i7-2820QM processor.
Host OS is working perfectly.
All software and drivers are latest and updated.
Thanks in advance
Even though VMware supports SMP there are some limitations. The OS itself is one. For Windows Server 2008 R2, only the Foundation Edition supports only 1 CPU, all other editions support 4 or more CPUs (see http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/r2-compare-specs.aspx) With Windows 7 only the Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions support 2 CPUs, all other editions only support 1 CPU (see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/system-requirements)
Although your Windows Server 2008 R2 supports edition may support 4 CPUs, it could cause issues assigning 4 CPUs in a 4 CPU (quad-core) host system. Don't forget that the host system also needs resources to manage the virtual machine(s).

Windows 2008 R2 Server is Enterprise and support atleast 8 CPU.
In Windows 7 host I have only 1 CPU with 8 cores.
I think if it boots atleast one time with all 8 CPUs, Windows has support of this, but VMWare Player is not: for example, when 2 VMs are working with 2 CPUs each (on 8 cores CPU), it is throwing the same BSOD in guest OS.
