Don't really recall if this started after workstation player update since I don't watch videos often in the guest, but I do have old videos saved there. When I play a video in any player/browser e.g. windows media player, vlc, chrome etc cpu usage goes to 90+%, there is tearing in video frames and lagging as well.
VM is set to use 2 CPU cores, has 4GB memory allocation and 3D acceleration is enabled. Installed latest version of VM Tools as well, but no improvement.
