As a host, I am using Windows 7 (and it has an antivirus program), and have created a XP Pro VM.
Since the host in fact does have a virus protection, does the gues also need virus protection in this situation?
A VM is a full computer, so you should take the same security measures as you would on the host.

Thanks for this, that's what I figured but glad to know for sure.
Depends on Your need of guest to be secured, means if You care only Your host pcs security You don't need an antiviruse for Your guest otherwise as was said above.
