I have Workstation 15 running under W10 and W15 is running XP. I think I need to install the VMware tools because a copy/paste does not work from XP to Windows. So I tried following the instructions at How to Install VMware Tools on Windows XP | SYSNETTECH Solutions
That says to select the VM option but W15 doesn't have that option. So I tried the Options tab and selected VMware tools and it says Update Automatically but that didn't help. So I tried Manual and download lots of stuff for various systems (I know I didn't need everything). But that didn't help.
I have attached a screenshot.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
This appears to be a bug in player 15 or maybe they removed the option at some point. I downloaded Player 12 and it works just as expected.
Here is additional information I just noticed: The Manage selection does have an Install VMware tools but that is greyed out.
Is the VM running and logged in? The menu will be greyed out if not...
Hi,
download the offline version from this link:
https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/details?downloadGroup=VMTOOLS1025&productId=742&download=true&fil... https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=VMTOOLS1025&productId=859 copy it to the desktop of the XP computer and run the file.
il download è Gratis, ti chiede solo l'autenticazione di utenza normale
P.S. I put the file for the 32bit OS attached.
Yes, it is logged in and running.
Ok, I downloaded it but had to do that using the host (windows 10) because the XP system would not reach the VMware server. Then I tried to add a shared folder so I could copy it to XP. But I can't add a shared folder unless the tools are installed. Can anyone think of another way to get the tools to the desktop of XP?
does the Xp computer connect to the internet? (Internet browsing should be independent of vmware tools).
Download it directly from the XP computer
ARomeo
I was able to use "net use * \\eddys-i7472I\c" and copied it over from a download on Windows 10. But I get an error when I try to run it. Maybe XP can't support the 32 bit .exe format.
I have done this many times before by using the option to install the tools but VMware now has that grayed out. Maybe I should try an earlier version of VMware.
No idea why it's greyed out. I have Workstation 15.5.1 installed on a Win 10 host OS. One WinXP VM with Workstation 5.x compatibility, another with Workstation 10.x compatibility, both of them with the Install VMware Tools enabled.
I notice that my other computer is using Player 12. Where can I get that?
