Please be clear on:

1. Your host OS

2. The version of VMware Workstation

3. Your guest OS(es)

4. The VM networking configuration - ie. bridged, NAT

Windows 11 is yet to be announced as supported.

If you look in the VMX file for the VM, what is the type of the ethernet0.virtualDev ?

Does Windows 11 have a driver for that adapter type?

Have you installed VMware Tools inside Windows 11?

I think you're misunderstanding. I'm using win11 for my virtual environment. My friends have succesfully loaded this onto their computers as well. How do I find the VMX file?

I understand you are running Windows 11 in your VM, which is not yet supported by Workstation.

The VMX file is in whichever folder you keep the VM files in.

ethernet0.virtualDev doesn't seem to exist in my windows 11 VM folder or my VMWare folder either.

It's an entry in the VMX file, which will be in the VM folder.

Yes, there it is:

ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"

Back to my previous question, does Windows 11 have a driver for that adapter type?

You could try changing the adapter to another type, say "e1000e" (note the additional "e" on the end) and see if that works.

This is the sort of fun you can have when installing an OS that isn't supported...

I note that you set the OS to "Other 64-bit" when creating the VM, it might have just worked if you had set "Windows 10" in the first place.

I just installed Windows 11 - Dev Insider version, which is to my knowledge the only one available from Microsoft (or so they lead to believe). I didn't find it failing anywhere and it does have Internet. I have it as a VM with Player 16.1. It just runs very slow, but that is kind of to be expected. Win 10 version for the upgrade was H2, the latest it suggested to me.

You say that "Installer is stuck". When installing exactly WHAT something gets stuck? There are several possibilities as an answer to that question.

EDIT: As a further confirmation: Windows 11 Insider Dev Build (as mentioned above), works OK in VMware 16.1.0 build-17198959. Also VMware Tools install without problems. The extra slowness went away after a couple of boots and further Updates of Win 11 of today. I'm running it from a recent HDD (obviously SSD would be much better) and it works as expected. Host is Kubuntu 20.04.02 with recent updates.

Hi, I'm having the same issue...

I upgraded from 15.5 pro to 17 pro but when it's on the installing network drivers step nothing happens... after that ask me for license, reboot system.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the workstation pro 17 several times.  Even tried this suggestion Use VMware Workstation installer repair command to solve some installation issues on windows host (6... but doesn't show up any virtual nic.

Also tried restoring on network preferences at workstation pro 17.

My computer has Windows 11 Home Edition version 22H2

Could you help me please?
