Install VMwareTools fails: Could not find component on update server ...

Install VMwareTools fails:

Could not find component on update server. Contact VMware Support or your system administrator.

Google has no answers. Its obviously a strange fault.

any hints? Thx!

The same guest runs on another host, a OpenSuse 10.1, 32 Bit, same Player but 32Bit, same VIX (i386). On this host no error appears, vmware tools are possible to install (at the moment problems to mount the iso ... because of another DVD-ROM device sr0 -> hda , but will be no problem) . It seems to be a problem of the guest.

Host: OpenSuse 11.1 64Bit, VMware-Player-3.1.0-261024.x86_64.bundle, VMware-VIX-1.8.1-207905.x86_64.bundle

Guest: DebianLenny 32Bit , no graphical desktop, konsole only

My Aims: install VmwareTools to synchronise time

go the host that works and copy all the iso files inside the installation directory.

On the non working host add them to the install directory.

The automatic tools download is work in progress

Thx! I already did it like you proposed. Mountet the iso on the host:

mount -t iso9660 -o -ro,loop=/dev/loop0 /usr/lib/vmware/isoimages/linux.iso /home/ted/tmp

then I mountet the /home from guest by nfs.Installed it. It works wonderful!

vmware-toolbox-cmd timesync ... and timesync works!

If your issue is not the same then you should start your own thread however you still need to include more information as you've provided no real clue to what your particular issue is! Smiley Wink

hello, thanx for quick reply - I'm sure te based around the same thing .

i get the same error message when trying to install VMware tools, once my virtual machine is powered on, the "install vmware tools" tab is highlighted, but when I click on it, I get the same error message about not bein to connect to server component.

i have Internet connectivity, I'm able to use Internet in the virtual pc, and also use the 'software update' tab on the VMware workstation itself - but still no joy when it comes to installing 'tools' ...

Michael have repaired the program in the control panel, and uninstalled and reinstalled - even tried a system restore - but still no joy.

thanks again

So are you saying your issue is resolved?  If not, then what version of VMware Workstation and what was the name of the installer .exe you downloaded for that version of VMware Workstation?

hello,

no still not resolved yet unfortunately - i repaired the installation in control panel, where it gives the option the uninstall, modify or repair / but this didnt help either.

its the free version of workstation from their website - workstation 9, I'm plannin on purchasing a liscence key when my 30day trial is up / but only if i can resolve this issue first hopefully.

thanks

Then the VMware Tools ISO Images are already in VMware Workstation's Working Directory and you can if necessary manually assign the target ISO Image for the target Guest OS to the CD/DVD in the VM's Settings and bypass the VMware Tools command on the menu.

This may not Fix your situation. But it 'might'.

Give it a look and perhaps translate the findings into something that fits your situation and purpose.
