How to upgrade a VMWare Player VM?

I recently upgraded to VM Player 17.  Originally, when I set up my VM I picked Windows 10 as my guest operating system.  I eventually upgraded to Windows 11 and it has been running fine in Player 16.2.  When I upgraded to Player 17, I tried to switch the guest operation system to Windows 11.  I got this error message.

I have no idea how to upgrade the VM hardware.  (Note: I am using the free version of VMWare player 17.)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Here's the process for Workstation Pro, I don't know if Workstation Player has the option: https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Workstation-Pro/17/com.vmware.ws.using.doc/GUID-9D101F2A-D85F-4F08...

Unfortunately there is no such option in VM Player

You would need to edit the .vmx file then.

Create a brand new VM with the latest option and compare the .vmx files between your existing VM and the new one.
