How to check the currently installed VmWareTools version in Win guestOS?

How can I check inside a WinXP/Win7 guestOS which version of VmWareTools is currently instaleld.

There is no Systray icon visible for VmWareTools

If the Tray Icon is deactivated, you can access the VMware Tools by clicking Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> VMware Tools

Ok, thank you. How can I re-activate the (missing) Systray icon?

Go to Control Panel -> VMware Tools.

Then on the "Options" tab, choose "Show VMware Tools in the taskbar".
