Host network connection to Virtual using NAT

I have been reading through the forum, and as far as I gather, it is not possible with VMWare Player 3.0.0 to set up the network, so if I use NAT (on a corporate network) I cannot ping/connect from the host to the virtual.

I have the setup on my laptop and I connect to corporate networks, airport networks, hotel networks, so I really don't want to expose my virtual to the external networks by using Bridged.

Is this correct?

Thanks,

Are you using the Windows or Linux Player?

NAT is the right choice for you. You should definitely be able to communicate between the guest and host when the VM is using NAT networking.

Check the IP that the guest is receiving (from the DHCP service on the host that works with NAT). What is the guest's IP? Can the guest communicate with the outside world?

My host system is Windows 7.

The IP config is:

IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.146

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

My virtual system is Windows 2008 32bit

The IP config is:

IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.234.128

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.234.2

The virtual can talk to the host network and the internet from there.

I just can't ping the virtual by name or IP.
